National Agency for Erasmus+

Since 1987, the DAAD has also been the National Agency for Erasmus+ (NA DAAD) and its predecessors in the higher education sector – making it one of the most experienced National Agencies in Europe.

The Erasmus+ program is the largest education and mobility program in the European Union. It stands for exchange and understanding of a united and cosmopolitan Europe in the world. Since its launch in 1987 – when it was still purely a mobility program for students – more than 16 million mostly young people have taken part, 1 million of them from German universities alone.

In Germany, the NA DAAD, one of the most experienced agencies in Europe and a separate department within the DAAD, is responsible for this. It supports the universities in the administration of the Erasmus programme and works with them to develop concepts for the internationalisation of higher education.
