Declaration on accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to the website of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) published at the URL https://www.daad.de/de/.

As a public body within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2016/2102, we endeavour to make our websites and mobile applications accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Disability Equality Act (BGG), the Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) for the implementation of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 and the harmonised European standard EN 301 549.

Status of compatibility with the requirements

The accessibility requirements are set out in Sections 3 (1) to (4) and 4 of BITV 2.0, which was issued on the basis of Section 12d BGG.
The website was last subjected to a simplified test in March 2023 by the Federal Monitoring Centre for Accessibility of Information Technology (BFIT-Bund) in order to assess the accessibility status of the website. 8 of the 56 test criteria were rated as ‘essentially passed’ or ‘not passed’. This means that the website's accessibility requirements are partially met. We are endeavouring to eliminate these barriers. A full BIK BITV test is then planned with the aim of obtaining the seal of approval.

The following barriers have been identified:

Some areas of the website (e.g. copyright notices for images, chatbot or cookie layer) cannot be operated properly using the keyboard.

  • The website only partially recognises user-defined browser settings.
  • Link texts are not always sufficiently meaningful.
  • Some PDF files are not accessible without barriers.
  • Videos have no audio description and no full text alternative.
  • Videos are sometimes not subtitled.
  • Foreign language words are not labelled everywhere.
  • Some areas (e.g. chatbot or slider) cannot be used properly with assistive technologies such as screen readers due to errors in external development libraries.
  • The source code of some pages contains syntactical errors.
  • The contrast between text, graphics and graphical control elements is sometimes insufficient.
  • Links are not always labelled barrier-free in hover and focus mode.
  • The hierarchy of headings is not always correct.
  • Elements are semantically incorrectly labelled in some places.
  • The name, role and value of control elements are sometimes not available.

Date of creation or last update of the declaration
