To answer the research questions, a mixed method design will be used consisting of the following methods:

Methodological approach

Quantitative design:

• Longitudinal study of International students due to begin a Bachelor’s or Master’s course in Germany in October 2017:

• Expert interviews and discussion with higher education researchers and higher education representatives
• Dialogue with international students currently at German higher education institutions, drop-outs as well as graduates
