BIRD | Bildungsraum Digital

From April 2021 to June 2025, the research and development project Bildungsraum Digital - BIRD (Digital Education Space) developed the first prototype of a networked digital infrastructure for education in Germany under the leadership of the University of Potsdam. The aim of the project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR, formerly BMBF), was to link existing digital platforms as well as teaching, learning and service offerings in such a way that individual educational pathways are supported digitally and seamlessly. Requirements, solutions and practical experience were gathered in dialogue with stakeholders in the education landscape. Interoperable, federated structures were created in the project's test field, enabling a flexible ecosystem of digital education services. The BIRD reference prototype also served to test the connectivity of numerous other funded projects. BIRD thus made a key contribution to the development of an overarching digital education space. more...
