DAAD USA Advisory Service
Welcome to the DAAD Advisory Office for the USA!
The USA is a key partner for Germany in the areas of higher education, research, and academic exchange. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFTR), the DAAD has established information and advisory services to provide well-founded guidance for students from the USA considering a course of study in Germany in light of current developments.
The USA Advisory Service is a newly established contact point at the DAAD, consisting of colleagues from the DAAD Centre for International Academic Cooperation (KIWi), the DAAD branch office in New York, and the Infocenter. The aim of the advisory service is to support German students, researchers, and universities by providing reliable information and individual advice on questions relating to study and research stays in the USA and to inform them about current developments in higher education policy. We now also offer information for US students, prospective students, researchers, and third-country students who wish to study in Germany. The advisory service does not offer any funding of its own, but is exclusively responsible for providing advice and information.
DAAD activities and measures
Universities are facing growing uncertainty and complexity regarding study, research, and work stays in the USA and Germany, resulting in increased demand for reliable guidance and information. Many German universities are challenged to provide US-American students and students from third countries with accurate, legally sound advice on academic pathways and mobility options.
The DAAD supports universities through the new USA Advisory Service website by bundling relevant information and offering targeted guidance on issues such as study and research opportunities in Germany, legal and residence frameworks, institutional cooperation, and networking. In addition, the DAAD provides advisory support to universities dealing with US-specific and transatlantic mobility questions (see FAQ).
We remain in close contact with our scholarship holders and prospective grantees. Scholarship holders with individual questions are encouraged to contact their designated DAAD contact person directly.
