Dr. Ir. Beatrice Asenso Barnieh has a Phd degree in Cartography and Geo-Information System (GIS) for Climate Change Mitigation from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Aerospace Information Research Institute in China and a Master’s degree in Geo-Information Science (GISc), Earth Observation (EO) and Remote Sensing (RS) for Natural Resources Management from the University of Twente-Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherlands. She worked as a researcher at the State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science and Digital Earth, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing-China. Modeling anthropic activities impacts on the climate system is the major focus of her research. In ClimapAfrica programme, she will focus on assessing the possible leakages in land use management policies and impacts on above ground carbon stock of trees towards sustainable development and climate change mitigation in Africa.

I participate at climapAfrica because...
It maintains a close tie with the global academic community through exchange, active networking with participants and experts in Germany. These contacts are useful for knowledge acquisition and international research work. In addition, new areas of knowledge arise through interaction between research scientists from different domains. The thematic research working groups, support for scientific workshops, seminars, conferences and skill trainings for participants are some of the things, which motivated me to be part of this programme.
