João do Monte Duarte holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Universities of Bern, Switzerland, and Campinas, Brazil, since January 2018. He obtained his Master's Degree in Computer Science from the Bridgewater State University, Massachusetts, United States, and his bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
He is currently an assistant professor at the Institute of Engineering and Marine Sciences of the Atlantic Technical University, Cape Verde, where he has also served as Dean from April 2018 to January 2020. His research interests include Smart Cities, Mobile Computing, and Computer Networks applied to various fields such as Climate-Change, Transportation, and Health.
Climate change expertise and interests
In the field of Climate Change João focuses on the modeling and computer based-simulation of environmental variables with special attention to the effects of greenhouse gas emissions.

I participate at climapAfrica because...
In general, it is an important platform to foster collaboration between us the African young scientists and to promote interaction with scientists from other parts of the word. In my specific case it allows me to contribute to science in West-Africa, which is still one of the least developed world regions regarding scientific production.
