Dr Godfrey Hove is an environmental and economic historian currently engaged as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of History, Stellenbosch University South Africa. His research interests lie in the environmental and agrarian history of Southern Africa, particularly how humans have interacted with the land, flora and fauna as they negotiate survival in ever changing socio-environmental circumstances. More specifically, his works emphasizes on the nexus between climate change, food security, state policy, local initiatives and rural livelihoods. As a member of the climapAfrica DAAD fellowship, Godfrey explores rural communities’ conceptualization of climate change and the socio-cultural and scientific factors that have shaped their responses to the phenomenon. Moreover, his research delineates the interface between state agrarian and environmental policy on the one hand, and peasant belief systems, responses and initiatives on the other over time. This will significantly contribute towards the formulation of policy frameworks relating to climate change as it affects rural agrarian based livelihoods.
Climate change expertise and interests
