Annotation

The research-oriented consecutive Master's degree programme in Islamic Studies provides you with in-depth knowledge of the normative religious source texts of Islam and their interpretations, the Islamic history of religion, culture and ideas from early Islam to the present day, as well as the manifold manifestations and patterns of interpretation of Islam in Muslim communities and contemporary societies. In addition to a historical and cultural education, central topics include current discussions about Muslims and Islam in Europe, Islamic movements and forms of political Islam. Another focus is current developments in Turkey. The expansion of active language competence in Arabic or Turkish as important source languages of Islamic societies as well as the possible acquisition of additional language skills in Persian or Turkish form the basis of scientific work. In addition to deepening subject-specific knowledge of Islamic Studies and practical language skills, teaching also focuses on methodological approaches to the research fields, especially those from cultural studies, religious studies and social sciences.
