The trainees are civil servants on revocation. The specialised study period accounts for 21 months at the University of Applied Sciences for Finance (FHF), and the professional practical training of 15 months is completed at a tax office. The course is completed after three years with a State Examination (career track examination). Graduates of the NRW University of Applied Sciences for Finance will be awarded, upon passing the State Examination, the academic degree 'Financial Consultant (FH)' and admitted to the career track group 2. 1 (formerly higher civil service) in tax administration.

Training within the administration. No direct application at the higher education institution. Online application procedure at www.studium-im-finanzamt.de Incoming applications are coordinated by the Regional Finance Office. The application process is further managed by the tax office to award a place at the NRW University of Applied Sciences for Finance. The application portal is generally open between May and November of each year.
