The following subjects are mandatory for the Teaching Qualification for Primary Schools: Basic Education in Language and Mathematics.

If you were already enthusiastic about William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Ray Bradbury and others during your school years and saw English class as more than just boring vocabulary memorisation, you should consider studying for a teaching qualification in English. This degree course provides comprehensive knowledge of the English language, its grammatical rules, changes that have occurred over the years, English literature and a wealth of historical context.

(1) The Bachelor’s programme in Teaching Qualification for Vocational Colleges is open to anyone who has the higher education entrance qualification certificate (general or restricted to a relevant subject) or the certificate for entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or evidence of previous education that is recognised as equivalent by legislation or the responsible state authority, or anyone who meets the requirements for applicants who are considered to be qualified as a result of vocational training or those under the regulations on applicants with international educational qualifications.
(2) Applicants who have not obtained their entry requirements at a German-speaking institution must have sufficient knowledge of the German language. For unrestricted admission to or enrolment on all degree courses, the applicant must prove the language ability required for study. Further details are governed by the current version of the German language proficiency test for access to higher education at the University of Paderborn.
(3) The enrolment to study the subjects Art, Music and Sports requires the successful completion of an aptitude test. Further details are laid down in the Special Regulations for the Study of Teaching Subjects or Separate Regulations for the Assessment of Course-Related Aptitude.
(4) Further admission requirements may arise from the Special Regulations for the Study of Educational Sciences and the Study of Learning Areas and / or Subjects..

(2) \ tTo study English as part of the Bachelor's degree programme in teaching at primary schools, admission is available to anyone who has knowledge of English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (GER). The knowledge of English can be demonstrated in particular by high school diplomas, on which the level B2 is shown, or by high school diplomas from NRW, or through high school diplomas from NRW, from which it can safely be assumed that English as a foreign language was completed at least at the end of qualification phase 1 of the upper secondary school with at least sufficient achievements or 5 points (basic course or advanced course). Furthermore, knowledge of English can be demonstrated, for example, by the TOEFL (internet-based, 87 points), IELTS (5.5), Cambridge ESOL (FCE) or UNIcert II or by an equivalent certificate. A certificate submitted must not be older than a maximum of two years from the beginning of the semester for which registration is requested. Proof of language skills is a requirement of enrolment.
