The location of the housing complex is favourable with regard to distance to the Departments of Law and Economic Sciences, the "Philosophikum", university library and the university of applied sciences TH Mittelhessen.

Up to 815 students live here, mostly in single rooms within flat shares with shared kitchens and bathrooms. Additionally, a few apartments are available.

Rent deposit

Until 31 August 2025, the move-in-deposit is €250 (€500 for family rooms). From 1 September 2025, the deposit will be three months' rent, rounded down to the nearest ten, but not exceeding €600.

Duration of housing

The maximum duration of residence is ten semesters. The maximum extension is for one semester.

In exceptional cases, the maximum residence period may be extended for a maximum of 6 months.

Special deals for international students

The international meeting centre "Lokal International" is located on the student residence grounds. This offers an eating area, billiard table and table football, as well as a large assembly hall. The "Lokal International" is used as a place of cultural exchange. Events take place there at irregular intervals, such as cultural events of the student dormitory-tutor-programme "WoTuPro". A party room in the cellar can be rented by residents for private parties.

Application requirements
All matriculated students of the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, the Technischen Hochschule Mittelhessen, the University of Applied Sciences Fulda and the Studienkollegs Mittelhessen are eligible to rent rooms.

The renting of rooms in our hall of residence depends on the place of study (for example, students of the University of Applied Sciences Fulda only have the right to live in Fulda).

Applicants must prove their student status with the respective enrolment certificate (if the letter of admission or certificate of enrolment has not been received yet, it's possible to submit these documents by the start of the semester at the latest).

Application deadline
Applications can be submitted at any time, there are no deadlines. Especially for the winter semester, it is advisable to submit the application as early as possible. At this time, due to the high number of new students, the demand for dormitory places is usually higher than the number of free places. Therefore, there is a waiting list.

In order to apply for accommodation, the application has to be filled online application for accommodation.
If you are an exchange student in an official mobility programme (ERASMUS+, ISEP, university cooperation programmes, and other types of exchange), a room in one of JLU's halls of residence will be reserved for you, as long as your online application reaches JLU by 15 January or 15 July for the following summer and winter semester respectively.
You can apply for a room in one of the halls of residence by following a link you will get from JLU after your online registration and once you have been nominated by your home institution. Please do not use the regular forms for German students issued by Student Services if you are an exchange student!

As soon as a place becomes available in our hall of residence (in accordance with the application), the applicants will be informed by the Studierendenwerk by email. Rooms are allocated after receipt of the application and in accordance with the occupancy guidelines.

After the application process, an email will be sent every two weeks in which interest must be confirmed. If this is not done, the application will no longer be considered.
