• Standard application procedure

  Application requirements
  In order to be eligible you need a proof of matriculation or of admission to study at a higher education institution within the jurisdiction of Student Services. Only students whose monthly incomes do not exceed the BAföG maximum by more than 30% may apply. Students whose parents live within the area served by Munich's public transport system (MVV) are not eligible to apply.

  Application deadline
  Applying for the winter semester is possible from the 15th of May in the year that your studies begin and for the summer semester from the 15th of November the year before your studies begin. (This does not apply to students who are already studying in Munich, Freising or Rosenheim.)
  
  Students can place themselves on the waiting list before they receive their matriculation certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung, IB). Proof of matriculation or of admission to study at a university within the jurisdiction of Student Services (Studentenwerk München) must be presented during the semester: by 14 November for the winter semester and by 14 May for the summer semester.

  Application
  In general, you can apply online.
  
  You are able to apply for up to three halls of residence.
  When allocating rooms, the Studierendenwerk will try to take into account the order of your preferences.
  
  Please note that the offer of accommodation is binding: if you do not accept the offer it will be assumed that you are forfeiting your application. In these circumstances, you can start a new application.

• Double Degree or Erasmus Mundus students

  If you are studying at LMU for one or two semesters as part of a double degree or Erasmus Mundus programme, you can ask your coordinator about student housing options.

• Erasmus-, UK-, SEMP- and LMUexchange-Programms

  The Studierendenwerk Munich provides the International Office with a rather limited number of rooms in student accommodations to offer to exchange students coming to LMU. The International Office handles applications for and the allocation of the rooms. A direct application to the Studierendenwerk Munich is not possible. The International Office cannot guarantee you a room in a student residence.
  
  Should you be coming to LMU as an Erasmus or LMUexchange student, you can apply for a room in student accommodation when filling in the online application (by ticking a box found under the corresponding link).
  
  If you receive a room from the International Office, the Studierendenwerk München will send you an e-mail with exact information about the housing which has been allocated to you. A document called an "Annahmeerklärung" will be attached to this e-mail. You should sign and send this document back to the Studierendenwerk München without delay. Additionally, you need to transfer three months’ rent plus the deposit (you can find the exact amount in your acceptance letter). Once the Studierendenwerk München has received the signed document, the room will be reserved for you.
  
  If you are not offered a room, the International Office can help you find a privately rented room. Please send the form Housing Application for Private Accommodation to housing-incoming@lmu.de.

  Parking spot can be rented for a fee
  
  Important information for international students participating in an exchange programme (like ERASMUS): Exchange and programme students are not able to apply for accommodation online. This is because the Munich Student Union allocates rooms for these students directly to the universities. Exchange and programme students should get in touch with their university directly.
