Alumni activities on the occasion of the German EU Council Presidency

Four alumni in discussion

What do DAAD alumni have to say about Europe? What innovative ideas do they have for the future of Europe? In the period of the German EU Council Presidency (second half of the year 2020), the DAAD has started to set up various alumni activities to make the ideas and impulses of its alumni visible and to promote networking and exchange among DAAD alumni from all over Europe.

The following alumni activities have taken place or are still to come: Alumni event "Shaping Europe - Strengthening Europe: Ideas for Europe" (inauguration event in 2020, closing ceremony expected to take place in 2022), EU ideas labs (2020/2021), video campaign "An Idea for Europe". Alumni meeting "Ideas for Europe - DAAD alumni contribute to shaping Europe"

Climate protection, forced migration, digitisation, COVID-19: The global challenges that we are confronted with also here in Europe are immense – but can be met if common paths are found, negotiated, and implemented.

The DAAD would like to contribute to this with its EU-wide alumni meeting "Ideas for Europe - DAAD alumni contribute to shaping Europe" on 17-19 March 2022 in Berlin (Germany). DAAD alumni from all 27 member states are invited to discuss the key challenges and opportunities of the EU in an interactive and results-oriented event and to collaborate in workshops to find solutions to Europe's most pressing issues. A description of the workshops can be found .

The seats are very limited. Participation is only possible upon invitation by the DAAD.

EU Ideas Labs

Three EU flags in front of a glass building

Starting in the period of the German EU Council Presidency (second half of 2020), DAAD alumni associations and the DAAD network in the EU countries were asked to organise EU Ideas Labs for alumni. The Labs are designed to jointly develop forward-looking ideas for issues that are of particular importance for the future of the EU.

Alumni from EU countries and the Western Balkans provide ideas at events dealing with topics such as "The European Green Deal", migration or democracy in Europe. Due to the current CoVID-pandemic, the "Joint fight against pandemics" or the perspective "Europe Post-COVID" were added.

Relevant impulses from the EU Ideas Labs are invited to present their ideas at an EU-wide DAAD alumni meeting, probably in Berlin in spring 2022. With the alumni events on the topic of the European Union, we would like to contribute to the discussion process on the future of Europe, which is currently also being formally initiated at EU level with the "Conference on the Future of the EU". Please have a look and join the multi-lingual platform to discuss ideas, contribute your results and findings or announce an event to come on this website:
