We are a group of postdoctoral fellows and alumnae conducting climate change research that is funded by the DAAD climapAfrica programme.
We intend to leverage the opportunity this programme provides to build an enduring network of like-minded, female colleagues across the African continent. Through various activities, we aim to provide the women in this network with tools to increase their voice, scientific standing and self-confidence, by hosting regular seminars and workshops and providing opportunities for members to find mentors from other parts of the continent or world.
By extension, we hope to provide mentorship and support for one another and for the next generation of African women and girls interested in pursuing careers in science and adjacent fields. Ultimately, we aspire to improve the representation of African women in science and academia.
Besides our regular meetings and events, we aim to get engaged in the following activities:
- Mentoring female undergraduates and graduates: with the purpose to encourage more African women in science
- Share research, news, and funding opportunities
- Provide a safe and inclusive space to discuss challenges in life, and work
- Create a network to foster the exchange of ideas, collaborative efforts, and instrumental support
- Collaboration (publications etc)
