Special features regarding the international orientation

Students can participate in subject-specific international cooperation programmes, e.g. in the form of a summer school at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA. In addition, students are supported in spending entire semesters abroad at one of the numerous partner universities with TUMExchange, Erasmus+, the Swiss-European Mobility Programme and the ATHENS programme. A mobility window for voluntary stays abroad is included in the degree course. In addition, virtual courses from partner universities can be attended as part of the EuroTeQ programme.

Special features regarding the equipment

There are a number of facilities and services that students can use directly on the Weihenstephan campus. For example, the TUM Venture Lab Food-Agro-Biotech offers innovation and start-up support for students. In addition, the research brewery and the TUM bakery technical centre, the food technical centre, the ZIEL (Institute for Food and Health) and the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstehpan are located directly on site.

Special features regarding research activities

There are both application-oriented projects and basic research (cooperation with the Working Group for Industrial Research Associations (AiF) and German Research Foundation (DFG)) in the department. The focus areas are diverse and include: 3D printing in the food industry; Alternative protein sources and cultured meat; Robot-assisted beverage filling; Modelling of crystal growth; Development of synthetic skin; Innovative separation technology for water purification.

Other special features

With its campus in Weihenstephan, TUM can look back on more than 150 years of research and innovation in the field of brewing and food technology.
