Special features regarding teaching

The only undergraduate degree course in aerospace engineering at a civil university in Germany; consecutive basic and research-oriented B.Sc.- and M.Sc. degree programme (6+4 semesters); Master´s degree programme with eight specialisation directions: Mathematical & physical modelling, experimental & numerical simulation methods, information technology in LRT, materials, materials & manufacturing processes, flight guidance & systems engineering, design & construction of aerospace vehicles, propulsion & energy systems, space technology & use of outer space

Special features regarding the international orientation

Specifically in the M.Sc., steadily increasing share of modules taught in English; large percentage (approx. 50%) of own students complete at least one semester abroad; Support of external, foreign students (approx. 50-100 p.a.); Pegassus Programme: Association of 20 LRT universities in Europe. The course credits acquired in exchange are recognised, with equivalence of the academic degrees and the certificate guaranteed; direct institute cooperations: e.g. with the Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Maryland; Joint degree with Samara University (RUS)

Numerous modernised laboratories, many of which are also available for courses in the form of internships.

The department or degree course is involved in a variety of research projects, many in an international context. To name a few examples: E-Genius, Flying Laptop, SOFIA, Fly-by-Wire DA42, ‘DROPIT’ International Research Training Group, Collaborative Research Centre transregio 75 (SFB-TRR75)

Support for founders

Mainly done place centrally with the support of the University of Stuttgart, but also through the degree programme, e.g. by assuming the mentoring role of university teachers and/or applying for research and development projects for entrepreneurs from the university. The departmental start-up officer also offers guidance.
