Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Romance Studies comprises French, Italian and Spanish in Münster; other Romance languages can also be learned. The range of courses covers all epochs from the Middle Ages to the present day and always combines sophisticated theory with practical application in speech and writing. Thematically changing seminars and lectures ensure a varied degree course, which gives students room to pursue their own interests and explore new fields together with teaching staff. Practical language training is provided exclusively by native-speaking teaching staff.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

This is the right place for students who want to immerse themselves in Romance languages, literature and cultures: Students choose a main language, a secondary language and a specialist subject, which they can explore through the range of courses according to their individual preferences and spread across all epochs. The languages themselves are taught by native speakers. The level of practical language courses in the secondary language and a third Romance language can be adapted to students' previous knowledge through their choice of options.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The stay abroad is compulsory, a high number of partner universities and Erasmus places in France, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Hungary are available, as well as work placements in LA; Our employees take advantage of staff mobility opportunities; Participation in international conferences is a matter of course; International visiting lecturers regularly enhance teaching and also give specialist lectures; Erasmus incoming students are also regular guests; The practical language courses are conducted exclusively by native-speaking teachers

Special features regarding the equipment

The seminar rooms are well equipped for modern teaching (WiFi, projectors, interactive monitors). A workspace that is freely available to students is also equipped with a monitor so that they can work together on documents and practice presentations. A large number of books and essays are available to students of the University of Münster for complete download free of charge.

Special features regarding research activities

All professors of Romance Studies have research and publication projects that are funded as individual projects (via state agencies, German Research Foundation (DFG) or scholarships) or organised and networked via research networks with qualification centres. Romance Studies students participate in all Research Training Groups of the department on an institutional and interdisciplinary basis, e.g. in the Cluster of Excellence Religion and Politics. Financially supported projects, networked with universities in various countries, are based in Romance Studies, as is joint research with colleagues at Erasmus partner universities.

Other special features

The department library has an excellent collection and, with its stock, is one of the largest Romance Studies libraries in Germany, offering the ideal conditions for solid research. Romance Studies is excellently positioned in terms of course advice: There are plenty of advisors available who work quickly to find solutions and, of course, discreetly. In addition, students are supported by a very committed departmental student body.
