Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Study structure in the BSc follows the recommendations of the German Society for Psychology (DGPs). BSc.: Extensive methodology training; application-based specialisations in the subjects of Occupational and Organisational Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Educational Psychology. MSc: In-depth courses in Statistics and Diagnostics; Focus in Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology; Cognitive Neuroscience; Learning, Development and Guidance also possible in Personnel and Business Psychology depending on capacities.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

MSc: In-depth courses in Statistics and Diagnostics; Focus on the subjects of learning, development and counselling, human resources and business psychology and psychological analysis of social dynamics depending on capacities. MSc in Psychology with specialisation in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy: Professional recognition in accordance with medical practice regulations

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department maintains Erasmus/Socrates agreements with 27 psychological institutes in Europe. Students are also supported if they want to organise a stay abroad themselves, e.g. in the USA. Recognition of credits obtained at foreign universities according to the principles of the Lisbon Convention. Staff mobility agreements as part of the Erasmus programme (11 European universities), regular stays by research fellows (DAAD) and membership of the Brazil Centre at the University of Münster. In addition, there is a research collaboration with Cuba

Special features regarding the equipment

Two computer laboratories, primarily for teaching and data collection for Bachelor's and Master's theses, each with 20 workstations; WiFi; 3 EEG labs, TMS lab, psycho-physiological lab, language lab, four behavioural observation labs of which one is specifically for research into childlike behaviour in babies and infants; precision engineering and electronics workshop.

Special features regarding research activities

There are currently third-party-funded individual projects in all fields. Dedicated operating units in organisational and business psychology, educational and applied developmental psychology and clinical psychology and other industry partnerships allow for an intensive transfer between research and professional practice. Strengthening of open science (see https://www.uni-muenster.de/Psychologie/os.html) in the subject and cooperation with the Münster Centre for Open Science (MüCOS) (see https://www.uni-muenster.de/MueCOS/); Participation in the Centre for Social Skills (CeSoS) (see https://www.uni-muenster.de/CeSoS)

Other special features

Department facilities: Psychotherapy outpatient clinic (PTA) – adults, special outpatient clinics for procrastination, body dysmorphic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and depression (under development); Psychotherapy outpatient clinic (PTA) – children and adolescents, Centre for Learning, Development and Counselling (Ce.LEB), Counselling and Continuing Education for Organisations (BFO), collaboration with, for example, the OCC (Otto Creutzfeldt Centre). Since 2023, there has been a Diversity Committee at departmental level (Psychology and Sports Science) in addition to the Equal Opportunities Committee.
