Special features regarding teaching

Thanks to a broad-based bachelor's training, our graduates are able to familiarise themselves with the particular issues of different employers. This is ensured in particular by practicals in modern laboratories, numerous lectures and excursions. Specialisation options are available for master’s students. Scientific training is guaranteed by project and final dissertations in which the students are involved in the research activities of the department.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Master's degree course can completed 100% in English. The mandatory practical phase and the bachelor's thesis can also be completed abroad. The department has excellent links with industry and partner universities in Germany and abroad. Partnerships are in place with universities around the world (Australia, Ireland, Lithuania, etc.). Students also have the option to study at a partner university for one semester and have their academic achievements recognised. Currently, 70% of students pursuing the M.Sc. in chemical engineering are international students.

Special features regarding the equipment

Students have access to the kind state-of-the-art laboratory equipment used in industry. In addition, various databases, such as the literature database SciFinder (Chemical Abstracts), Depatisnet and the Pearson crystal structure database, are used for research. The department also has a wide range of analytical equipment such as various chromatographs, fluorescence, NMR and IR spectrometers, rheometers and particle size measuring instruments.

Special features regarding research and development

The chemical engineering department works on a number of research and development projects. Some of them are financed by industry or by third parties from the public sector. The department is one of the most research-intensive at FH Münster or anywhere in Germany. Graduates also regularly receive prizes and awards for their final dissertations. Department lecturers produce a high number of publications and patent registrations.
