Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Under the joint umbrella of "Stuttgarter Maschinenbau" (& Instagram etc), the two faculties "Energy, Process and Biotechnology" and "Design, Production and Vehicle Technology" have established themselves. A special feature here is the large number of professorships in the fields of Product Development/Construction Engineering on the one hand and Production and Manufacturing Engineering on the other. The associated diversity in subjects and the resulting opportunities for cooperation are a unique feature of the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Under the joint umbrella of "Mechanical Engineering in Stuttgart" (& Instagram, etc.), the two faculties "Energy, Process and Biotechnology" and "Design, Production and Automotive Engineering" have established themselves. One special feature of Mechanical Engineering in Stuttgart is the large number of professorships in the areas of product development/design engineering on the one hand, and production and manufacturing engineering on the other. The associated professional diversity and the resulting opportunities for cooperation are a unique feature of the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In addition to numerous Erasmus exchange opportunities and direct institute cooperations, an ever-growing number of double master's degree programmes are also offered, which make it possible to study for a year in Australia, China, Japan, Sweden, Spain, Romania, Taiwan or Brazil, as well as a joint degree with one of the best US universities (Georgia Institute of Technology).

Special features regarding the equipment

Numerous practical training experiments and other technical facilities have been modernised in recent years. Very good cooperation with computer centre and university library to offer new services.

Special features regarding research activities

ARENA Research Factory 2036; Graduate School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (GSaME); SimTech (Cluster of Excellence); Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart, wind tunnel; Supercomputer at the High-Performance Computing Centre, etc.

Other special features

All Engineering degree courses always focus on the link to professional practice, but this does not contradict a more research-based approach since current and future mechanical engineering products cannot be developed without extensive research. The link to professional practice is already considered when the professors are appointed; they generally bring with them several years' professional industry professional experience from positions of responsibility and incorporate their procedures and thinking into the training
