Annotation

General information: German Linguistics examines the German language – using the findings and methods of modern international linguistics. The characteristics of German are analysed on a structural (syntax, semantics, phonology, morphology) and functional (pragmatics) level. Furthermore, cognitive, social and historical aspects of German play a particularly important role in this degree course. All these questions are addressed in light of their applicability in a wide range of professional fields. The four-semester Master’s degree course "Linguistics: Cognition and Communication" aims to combine theoretical with practical knowledge. The overall goal is to solve a range of problems through scientific analysis. The knowledge previously acquired in the Bachelor’s degree course is expanded and deepened in this programme. Research focuses: The profile of the Master’s degree programme is specifically geared towards the established research focuses and activities in Marburg: accordingly, the degree course offers the opportunity to specialise in the fields of linguistic-theoretical cognitive modelling and linguistic-dynamic analysis of varieties of German. This specialisation is integrated into the two research focuses of the participating institutes: experimental, clinical and cognitive neurosciences and cultural dynamics. In addition to this research-oriented profile, the degree course in Marburg allows students to study all facets of the subject. The profile of German Linguistics historically covers all stages of language from the Late Middle Ages to the present day and focuses on various systematic areas of historical language research and language use research.
