Annotation
General information: The Master’s degree course in "Classical Philology" teaches you well-founded content and methodological skills in the field of ancient literature and consolidates the necessary language skills. All of this knowledge should enable you to work independently in the field of classical philology, familiarise yourself with philological issues independently, analyse these critically and systematically, and open up new fields of research. The study of Classical Philology is characterised by - the reflective use of language, - the careful linguistic and content analysis of highly complex texts, - the paradigmatic individual interpretation on the one hand and the production and systematic treatment of larger problem contexts on the other, - independent research and group work, including the presentation of the results obtained. The degree course is research-oriented and also prepares you for a possible doctorate. Research focuses: In line with the research focuses of Classical Philology in Marburg, the degree course, building on a thorough education in both classical languages, offers an exploration of the canonical texts of antiquity, on which the European cultural traditions in science, literature, the arts and philosophy are based, as well as the historical contextualisation of these texts and their reception.
