International applicants must submit proof of language proficiency at level DSH-2 in accordance with the "Regulations of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main on the German Language Examination for University Entrance (DSH) for Applicants with University Entrance Qualifications from Abroad" in the current valid version, insofar as they are not exempt from the German language examination according to the DSH Regulations. This degree course is offered both as a major subject and as a minor subject.

An OSA (Online Study Choice Assistant) is available for the degree programme. Participation is a prerequisite for applying for enrolment (after admission) in the German Studies degree programme. Skills in two foreign languages, especially English, are expected for the German Studies degree programme.
