Annotation
The unique thing about the Master's degree programme in the Culture and History of Central and Eastern Europe at Viadrina is that it not only provides knowledge about Central and Eastern Europe, but that the degree programme itself is anchored in the border region between Germany and Poland. At Germany's most easterly university, lecturers and students from Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, as well as from other countries in Europe and around the world, come together to work on the challenges, perspectives and problems of Eastern European culture and history in a pan-European context in an interdisciplinary manner. The usually small seminar size at Viadrina enables intensive supervision by the lecturers and stimulates contact between the students. They have access to two research libraries, that at Viadrina and that at Collegium Polonicum. With their specialised knowledge and in-depth language skills, graduates can fit into a wide professional field. The Humanities academic degree enables graduates to engage in further scientific work on the one hand, and on the other hand to subsequently work as Central and Eastern Europe experts in science, politics, culture or business. The professional fields include press and public relations as well as human resources departments of companies or public institutions, research, teaching or training institutions, media, foundations and publishers, urban and regional planning, museums and exhibitions, cultural agencies. Proven practitioners from these occupational fields regularly undertake presentations in the Eastern European Colloquium.
