Target group

In view of today's ever-converging global society and increasingly intensive cultural exchange processes between countries and continents of different language and culture, a course which researches literature in light of its world-wide interlinking as a world literature, is particularly relevant. The labour market has a high need for well-educated graduates of the Humanities and Cultural Sciences who have learned to think in global dimensions, who can correlate the ways of thinking of different languages and cultural regions and build a bridge between cultures. The course provides extensive knowledge of literature of different languages in different cultural areas. The course opens a broad spectrum of approaches and methods for empirical research and theoretical analysis of literary phenomena in a global context to the students.

Annotation

If the Bachelor degree certificate is not available by the application deadline, but at least 135 credit points can be demonstrated: Submit a certificate of study and examinations and the average grade achieved so far. (This certificate must be issued by the relevant higher education, original or officially authenticated copy). After enrolment, the diploma must be submitted. If the degree was obtained abroad: officially authenticated copy of a certificate of recognition (responsible: Student Service - Admission International).

Mainz Bachelor's degree course in Comparative Studies/European Literature as a core or minor subject, Bachelor's degree from another university in General and Comparative Literary Studies (Comparative Studies), Bachelor's degree with the philology of a foreign language as the core subject (in the case of Indology and Turkish Studies, also as a minor subject), Bachelor's degree in two individual philologies in the literatures of different languages or a very similar degree from a university in Germany or abroad. In addition to German as the degree course language, the ability to read material in English and at least one other modern foreign language from the subjects of the course is required. If proof is not provided otherwise (e.g. through a Bachelor's course completed previously), the ability to read material will be reviewed in two translation exercises in the first study semester.
