Annotation

An inter-disciplinary comparative course is offered, which deals with European literatures and cultures within a historical perspective since the 18th Century. The Master's degree course is characterised by targeted integration of literary and cultural perspectives in the investigation of the European cultural and linguistic area. Knowledge of philology/textual science and cultural studies is examined as part of a critically inter-disciplinary reflection from the perspective of different philologies. The basic the aim of this integrative focus is, on the one hand, the teaching of inter-disciplinary knowledge of the history of European literatures and cultures and the in-depth teaching of methodological skills. On the other hand, there are the development of well-founded and reflective cross-cultural skills as well as the promotion of a multi-lingual ability to act due to the distinct range of language training options in the centre of the degree course: The degree course offers the language areas of German, English, French, Italian and Spanish in various combinations. For admission, proof must be provided of the command of two modern foreign languages, generally English or a Romance language (French, Italian or Spanish)\; at level B2 for the first language and level B1 for the other foreign language in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). In the course of studies, further knowledge in two of the four named languages is to be acquired. A course-relevant stay abroad of at least three-months in a country of one of the key languages must be completed or proof of this provided. Bachelor's degree course or equivalent academic degree in English Studies, German Studies, Latin Studies, Romance Studies or in another European philology or another degree course in a closely related subject. This subject is suitable or closely related if it contains modules/courses in the amount of at least 63 ECTS credit points with a corresponding scientific component and knowledge of two European foreign languages, generally English or a Romance language (French, Italian or Spanish) has been acquired, at level B2 for the first foreign language and at level B1 for the second foreign language in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
