Annotation

The aim of the course is to understand the continuities and breaks in the historic development of Europe as the basis of current relations and to increase awareness of the dependency of the present on the past in order to shape the future. The research projects and courses in the specialised Master's degree course are oriented towards the issue of Europe as a region and an idea, according to centres and peripheries, borders and dissolution of boundaries. This enables the course to have a broad thematic and methodological character, with the possibility to choose between the specialisation epochs of Ancient History, History of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Era. There are at least three excursion days. There are close links in teaching and research with the inter-disciplinary Institute for Cultural History of the Early Modern Era, as well as with the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies at the Universität Osnabrück, opening up access to a large number of research topics and research projects. The Master's degree opens up the opportunity to do a doctorate and, with the appropriate course planning/fulfilment of the relevant requirements, admission to any possible doctorate\; In accordance with this for the PhD programme on Migration Research and Intercultural Studies at the Universität Osnabrück. The degree qualifies students for a wide range of careers in the fields of knowledge management, archive and library systems, museums and exhibitions, in journalism and public relations, publishing, tourism and management consultancy.

Admission requirements

Bachelor’s degree course or equivalent academic degree in history with a history component of at least 70 credit points; Proof of command of English and another language at language level B1 according to CEFR. For access to the epoch focal points "Ancient History" and "History of the Middle Ages", the Latinum must be proven when registering for the corresponding modules.
