Learning German

learning German

You are considering to study in Germany? Many degree programmes require German knowledge at least at level B2. However, there are many international degree programmes that are taught in part or completely in English. But even with these programmes, some knowledge of the German language is really helpful for everyday life, e.g. in the supermarket.

What is the best way to prepare for the language?

We recommend taking a German language course at your home higher education institution or a language institute like the Goethe-Institut beforehand. Online language courses can also be helpful. The Goethe-Institut offers a German language forum with exercises for all proficiency levels.

If you would rather like to learn German in Germany, you can use the DAAD Language and Short Courses database to find language courses at German higher education institutions.

Alternatively, you can use the database operated by the Fachverband Deutscher Sprachreise-Veranstalter e.V. (FDSV). There you will find language courses in Germany - accredited in accordance with the European standard EN 14804 - as well as helpful information on German language courses in Germany.
