DAAD promotes the internationalisation of universities of applied sciences

HAW.International programme

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is once again supporting ten internationalisation projects at universities of applied sciences (HAW) throughout Germany. The selected projects were successful in the current funding round of the DAAD programme "HAW. International" programme and will receive around five million euros in funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) until 2027.

With the HAW. International programme, the DAAD has been supporting projects to expand internationalisation at universities of applied sciences since 2019. The BMBF-funded programme is now entering its second round. The newly selected projects are intended to bring about structural changes and permanently increase the degree of internationalisation at universities. The programme particularly supports the establishment of strategic partnerships and cross-border networks in study, teaching, research and transfer.

One example of this is Mainz University of Applied Sciences, which will use the funding to intensify its cooperation with five non-European partner universities in order to establish an interdisciplinary cooperation network that is orientated towards the sustainability goals of the United Nations. The West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, on the other hand, is expanding its international network in Central Asia and the Caucasus by extending the existing double degree Master's programme in Management and Information Technology. In addition, students can acquire intercultural and specialist skills in the form of micro-credentials outside of the double degree programme.

The following HAW projects will be funded under the programme until 2027:

  • Evangelische Hochschule Berlin
  • Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung Eberswalde
  • Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt
  • Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena
  • Technische Hochschule Köln
  • Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal
  • Hochschule Mainz
  • Hochschule Ruhr West
  • Westfälische Hochschule
  • Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau

All funding starts on 1 January 2025.
