Early Detection of Forest Health Decline using Remote Sensing Data
Überblick
Vorhaben
In Pakistan, about 4% of the total land area is covered by forests out of which the major portion is of coniferous and scrub forests in the Northern hills. To improve the forestry in Pakistan, a Billion Tree Afforestation Project (BTAP) which primarily aimed at planning, designing, commencing, and implementing “Green Growth Initiative” in the forestry sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. After successfully completing the BTAP project, the Government of Pakistan has initiated a 10 Billion Tree afforestation project all across Pakistan. Continuous monitoring of these newly born forests is crucial to save them from the effects of global warming and climate change, which are major factors of tree diseases. To this end, this project aims at developing a system that can detect tree diseases in a high resolution satellite imagery. The developed system is intended to assist in filling gaps in policy makers information that is essential in ensuring sustainable management of forests.
