The university offers its own sports programme. Students attending the institution can participate in sports programmes of other Bavarian higher education institutions. Some courses are free of charge, some subject to fees. The programme is open to students of the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg (TH Nürnberg), other higher education institutions in the region, and visiting students. The FAU has its own water sports centre on Lake Brombach in Pleinfeld offering a wide range of sailing courses (Uni Jolle, Kat) and other water sports in the summer.
