Special features regarding teaching

The high practical relevance of our teaching is our special strength. All faculty professors have several years of professional experience outside universities. Our institutes and laboratories are fitted with high-quality and modern equipment, which creates a practice-oriented learning and working environment. Our core areas of competence are the cornerstones of our degree courses: Development and manufacturing of electronic circuits, development and implementation of algorithms, embedded systems for device control, software development

Special features regarding the international orientation

Our cooperation with European and non-European universities enables our students to gain international experience, both through the opportunity for periods abroad and a diverse campus. Our partnerships provide the perfect setting for periods abroad in an academic environment. There are various exchange programmes and Erasmus agreements for study semesters and practical semesters as well as for final dissertations. Double degree agreements with Curitiba (Brazil), Rouen (France) and Madrid (Spain) give students the opportunity to spend prolonged periods abroad (more than one semester).

Special features regarding the equipment

For teaching and R&D, we use high-quality laboratories equipped to current industry standards, which cover the following fields: Embedded systems with microcomputers and FPGA; Design of integrated analog and digital circuits; Medical Appliance Engineering; Imaging in medical technology; IT security and security of embedded systems; Embedded systems for medical technology; Signal Processing; Computer Networks; Mobile Applications; High Frequency Engineering; Production and manufacturing engineering for electronics; Sensor development; Automatic Control Technology

Special features regarding research and development

We are very successful in attracting third-party funding for applied research, which is why we have around 15 permanent full-time positions for research staff. Master's graduates have the opportunity to pursue a cooperative PhD individual projects. There are several major projects currently underway: Navigation systems for minimally invasive operations; Learning algorithms for sleep apnoea detection; In-situ microscopy for bioreactors; Optical blood pressure measurement; Speaker localisation per microphone array; Autonomous surgical robots; Software-defined radio

Support for founders

A number of graduates have used their know-how gained in R&D projects of the faculty for successful start-ups in the fields of medical technology, signal processing and software engineering. During the start-up phase you receive support from the Career-Center of Mannheim University of Applied Sciences and by professors of the faculty

Other special features

The Faculty's special efforts in the field of internationalisation were recognised by the fact that in 2006 our master's degree in Information Technology was the only technical course at a German university to be awarded the quality label "TOP 10 International Master´s Degree Courses made in Germany" by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
