Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Competent teaching of comprehensive, broad fundamentals, so that a general basis can be chosen for each specialisation, without being purely subject-specific. Students benefit from the strong ties with other faculties/subjects (in particular Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, as well as cooperation with local research institutions (PTB, HZI, DLR, NFF)); intensive help with orientation right from the start of studies; Own academic advisor and professor as a mentor; Attractive specialisations (can be intensified in the MSc); The BSc. provides a professional qualification.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

More than 120 years of experience as a subject area at the university; Connections with local research institutions and with business/industry; High research relevance and practice feedback = best research-oriented study conditions including attractive participation options for students (especially in the MSc’s) in research projects; Substantial individual guidance in the programme; Much freedom of choice in the degree programme (especially in the MSc); Teacher-student relationships built on trust; In part, genuine combination of Electrical Engineering and other departments with both approaches of thinking and acting.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Highly international research; Various research partners abroad with professional exchange and opportunity to work directly on joint projects (mainly in the MSc). Close integration with international partners enables entry into the international labour market. Many exchange programmes are available for semesters abroad. High proportion of international students. With QTEC, students can take a Master's degree programme taught entirely in English.

Special features regarding the equipment

Excellent laboratory and equipment resources; various large-scale research facilities; several research centres with supplementary ultra-modern, first-rate research equipment. "Laboratory for Emerging Nanomaterials" (LENA) research centre; Due to close links with local large-scale research establishments, there is the opportunity to share other excellent research facilities (PTB, DLR, HZI).

Special features regarding research activities

Cutting-edge research at the institutes: ET of the TU Braunschweig has been involved in three clusters of excellence of the Excellence Initiative of the Federal and State Governments since 2019, therefore excellent funding in the next few years; Research Alliance with LUH, PTB, DLR; High level of acceptance of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (EIT) in public research promotion institutions (national/international); notable ratio of third-party funding (repeated for more than 30 years): approx. 70% publicly reviewed funds and approx. 30% industry funds. EIT part of the TU research areas Mobility, Metrology, Eng. for Health, City of the Future.

Other special features

Very close cooperation with the PTB (= Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt), the German national metrology institute, from 2015 joint appointments, joint graduate schools, training courses and joint junior research groups; Participation in interdisciplinary research centres - also in joint sponsorship with industry (Lower Saxony vehicle research, Laboratory for Emerging Nanomaterials); high level of internationality among (Msc) students and academic staff.
