Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Our students learn and conduct research in state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture theatres and computer rooms, benefit from our faculty's cutting-edge international research and interdisciplinary industry contacts, and have access to a wide range of advice and information. An emphasis is placed on practical education throughout the entire course of studies and an industrial work placement is included. Students are also supported in their choice of career through career events and good contacts with our graduates.

Special features regarding the equipment

About 5,000 square meters of state-of-the-art laboratory space in a new faculty building. Special rooms such as an anechoic chamber, a large absorber hall, special laser laboratories and a clean room wing are available for teaching and research. The lecture theatres, seminar rooms and computer clusters for students feature state-of-the-art equipment.

Special features regarding research activities

Our professors conduct research together with their teams and cover a wide range of topics in addition to the main areas of plasma technology and sensor technology, such as communications technology, energy engineering and medical technology. International cutting-edge research is conducted on an interdisciplinary basis with industrial partners as well as in cross-faculty and cross-university Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centres and research departments. State-of-the-art laboratories and the short distances typical of a campus university make it possible to pool the various research competences.

Other special features

The faculty's local Equal Opportunities Officers actively and purposefully promote gender equality and offer advice, workshops and support programmes. The decentralised diversity officer is the contact person at the faculty in cases of discrimination. A diverse counselling and support programme is available to enable barrier-free and equal-opportunities education. Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) offers programmes and initiatives in the field of sustainability and students can obtain a Sustainability certificate.
