Special features regarding teaching

A special feature of the WiWi course at JLU Giessen is the flexibility in terms of content. Students choose their major (specialisation) individually using compulsory elective modules. This allows the course to be designed according to personal strengths and preferences. In the two-semester orientation phase, at the beginning of the course, important Business Administration, Economics and Methodological fundamentals are taught. However, the evaluation of these modules is only included in the final grade upon request. It is also possible to integrate modules from other departments and from foreign universities into the course

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department maintains intensive collaborations and exchange programmes within Europe, the USA, Russia and China. Further collaborations are constantly being driven forward. In the course, the department offers the opportunity to pursue a double degree (in the Master). A stay abroad can be easily integrated into your studies. There are also "Business English" offers and numerous different language courses. In the field of research, a lively international exchange is lived out and practised through joint research projects.

Support for founders

The Entrepreneurship Cluster Mittelhessen (ECM) is the start-up centre of the entire Justus Liebig University in Gießen and is directly linked to the Department of Economics. It supports students to implement their innovative ideas in the context of setting up a new company. The ECM organizes workshops, seminars and start-up events (e.g. IdeaSlam). With the start-up advice, the ECM helps with the creation of business plans and provides information on funding opportunities.

Other special features

The department of Economics is characterised by a personal atmosphere and the close contact between students and staff. As the oldest faculty of Economics in Germany, founded in 1777, the faculty now stands for a broad education in the field of teaching with the opportunity to demonstrate individual focal points and for research that is largely characterised by practical questions.
