Bachelor's/Master's degree course in the 7+3 semester format; institutionalised work placement studies (BPS) which are integrated into studies and are awarded credits; Project modules; interdisciplinary courses in the field of Social Sciences, Law, Economics and Technical English; Good facilities in the departments with student workstations and rooms for group work; Numerous funded excursions; preliminary mathematics course, "ProMathe" programme with numerous courses in Mathematical Propaedeutics.

Special features regarding the equipment

Very good spatial and technical equipment, there are modern laboratories in the areas of materials, geotechnical engineering, mechanics, a clamping field in the structural area, a hydraulic building hall with 1,200 sqm as well as external laboratories at the sewage treatment plant and in the waste heat and power plant in Kassel.

Special features regarding research activities

Climate change and environmental protection, technological competition and demographic development place high demands on research and development. The department has taken up these questions and broken them down to the level of civil and environmental engineering in order to anchor its research focus in the sustainability-oriented research profile of the University of Kassel ("Kassel Institute for Sustainability"). The main focus is on Materials Engineering, Climate Protection and Socio-Technical Systems for Networked Living.

Other special features

Quality management in teaching: Long-standing, sophisticated quality assurance system with structural evaluations of the department's own degree courses through regular annual surveys of first-year students, students in the 4th study semester and students at the time of graduation; Regular discussion of results with the departmental student body in the General Student Committee, regular course evaluations and surveys on the student workload.
