Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The teaching in the Bachelor's degree programme is characterised by a very high level of practical orientation. In addition to traditional courses, practical knowledge is also imparted through presentations by in-house and external lecturers, excursions as well as practically oriented project and research work in an interdisciplinary approach. Furthermore the latest e-learning techniques are used such as video conference lectures or online preparation of course material.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Trinational Bachelor's degree course in Civil Engineering; Trinational Master's degree course in Civil Engineering; Double degree programme: Master's academic degree with Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada; Direct cooperation and student exchange with the University of Waterloo/Canada, University of Surrey/United Kingdom and the ESITC Metz/France; Numerous final theses and research projects in cooperation with foreign universities and institutions (e.g. with the UCLV Santa Clara/Cuba, SINTEF, Norway); INTERREG projects for sustainable construction and climate protection with international consortia.

Special features regarding the equipment

In terms of technical facilities, all devices are constantly upgraded to keep abreast of the latest developments. All workplaces are computer workstations, each course of study has a computer room. All lecture theatres are equipped with digital projectors and whiteboards. Both students and professors can borrow laptops as well as other technical equipment. Furthermore, test laboratories (hydraulic engineering, community water management, construction materials testing centre) are available.

Special features regarding research and development

The faculty offers students numerous opportunities to participate in applied research. Various laboratories such as the Research Centre for Hydraulic Engineering or the Laboratory for Community Water Management. The university's Official Construction Materials Testing Centre (ÖBP) is also active in building materials technology research through its testing, monitoring and certification activities. Additional research projects are also carried out faculty-wide. In addition, there are cooperation agreements with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Other special features

The department is a leader in the implementation of the further education concept for Building Information Modelling, which has been very successfully established for 4 years.
