Special features regarding teaching

The teaching in Braunschweig follows the Braunschweig model and is characterised by diversity in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses. Students have a good range of options from the very start. There are no compulsory subjects in the Master's course, and the study profile can be individually compiled, for example from 21 in-depth study areas in Civil Engineering. The teaching staff are available to help students with questions during regular consultation hours.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The CSE degree course is aimed particularly at international students. The department has a double-degree programme with the University of Rhode Island in which students can earn German and American Master’s degrees at the same time. DAAD-funded scholarship places are available for this. An international coordinator is permanently available to students as a contact person. Credits earned abroad are normally transferred. International coursework and theses are possible. There is a buddy programme.

Special features regarding the equipment

Numerous laboratories, workshops and experimental facilities at a high scientific level. Examples of these include the LWI's hydraulic engineering hall, the resonance pulser of the Institute for Steelwork, extensive testing equipment of the Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Structures and Fire Protection as well as the asphalt lab of the Institute of Highway Engineering. A parallel cluster is available for modelling. The facilities also include a railway operation simulator. In principle, there are testing areas with technical equipment available in almost every institute.

Special features regarding research activities

In the department, there are currently two Research Training Groups funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG): "Social Cars" and "Models for the Constitutional Evolution During Aging of Materials and Structures". Professors are involved in Collaborative Research Centres. Many of the department's institutes are active in the university's key areas of research – "City of the future" and "Mobility". A centre for fire research has been founded.

Support for founders

At TU Braunschweig, support to business start-ups is not organised in a decentralised manner and is instead the central mission for the TU and the region. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Reza Asghari, the Entrepeneurship Hub supports students, alumni and academic staff at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, TU Braunschweig and Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) who want to start their own business. The aim is to teach people about starting a business as a rewarding and fulfilling career option and to create a lively start-up culture in the region.

Other special features

A broad network at the Braunschweig location consists of non-university research, particularly in the fields of mobility, the environment, the city of the future, infection protection, etc.
