Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

In the first four semesters, the general engineering principles are taught as well as basic knowledge of all areas of specialisation. After completing Core Studies 2, you must decide which direction you want to take: Construction Management; Structural Civil Engineering; Traffic Systems; Water and Waste Management. The choice of an area of specialisation offers you the opportunity to specialise in a broad field of activity.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The consecutive degree course ensures an education that teaches these qualifications in both technical and business terms. Students can choose between the areas of specialisation construction management, structural civil engineering and infrastructure, with a focus on traffic systems & water and waste management. The degree course can be started in both the winter and summer semesters. The aim of the programme is a professionally qualifying Master's degree with the title "Master of Engineering" (MEng).

Special features regarding the equipment

Laboratories for geoengineering, hydraulic engineering (test flume); Institute for Building Materials and Structural Design and Engineering (IBB) and Aachen Centre for Timber Construction Research (AZH) with laboratories for building materials (various testing machines), steel construction (test frame, 2x 400/500 kN, dynamic testing machine 100 kN), structural timber engineering (2 CNC-controlled trimming machines, climatic chambers, wall test bench (4x 500 kN vertical, 600 kN horizontal); Universal testing machines (50, 250, 600 kN); Bending test bench up to 15m span (2x 600 kN); Dynamic testing machine 250 kN, clamping field, test field NKL 2; Carpentry shop and 2 metalworking shops with CNC-controlled milling machines and lathes.

Special features regarding research and development

Centre for Timber Construction Research (AZH): Research in structural timber engineering with an extensively equipped timber construction laboratory. Institute of Building Materials and Structural Design and Engineering (IBB): Research and development in steel, composite and lightweight construction, concrete construction, timber construction, structural design and engineering. Institute of Smart Building Engineering (ISBE): Innovative planning methods, planning tools and pioneering technologies for "smart" buildings. Institute of Smart City Engineering (ISCE): Climate change, demographic and economic developments for municipal infrastructures and settlement areas. European Centre for Sustainability Mobility (ECSM): Interdisciplinary research and development services in the field of sustainable mobility.
