Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

During your BA degree in Architecture at the School of Architecture at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, you will acquire and learn the skills and abilities to carry out planning tasks and gain comprehensive insight into professional fields related to environmental architecture and structural engineering. With a high level of practical relevance, you will develop projects in architecture and urban development that are supervised in teams. We attach great importance to ensuring that a whole day can be used without interruption for individual courses or modules and that overlaps with other modules are avoided.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The Master's degree programme is oriented towards the professional tasks of architecture. It promotes scientific debate, creative, three dimensional and technical-constructive design, but also the flexibility of thought, the ability to reflect and, above all, the ability to develop one's own attitudes and concepts. It pursues a thematic guideline that considers the context of architecture. In the projects, social references are established and influences are arranged and evaluated in order to facilitate decision-making and present conceptual proposals.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The curriculum offers English-speaking courses, often in cooperation with higher education institutions abroad. The compulsory excursion abroad in the second and fifth semesters has become just as firmly established as recurring trips abroad to carry out projects. As a result, it has been possible to attract lecturers from abroad to Bremen via the DAAD and internal funding and to develop international courses, some in online format, through the university network "EU Stars".

Special features regarding the equipment

The facilities continuously supervised by employees, such as the modelling and graphic workshop, CAAD laboratory and construction documentation, offer the best conditions for supporting teaching and research effectively. This is complemented by a geo-database with a laboratory and the learning platform Aulis, but also projects that are implemented in the real context of the city and with support on a scale of 1 : 1.

Special features regarding research and development

The Institute of Architecture and Urban Development supports research projects and the promotion of young academics, as well as cooperation with partners. It sees itself as a source of inspiration for the region. The focus is on the sustainability of architecture and urban development, the development of resource-efficient building methods and structures. The nationally active Bremen Centre for Building Culture is active in the areas of education, collection and research. In addition to the organisation of lectures, exhibitions and publications, it maintains an important planning and photo archive.

Other special features

The SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE BREMEN has adopted a position paper on sustainability. It pledges to intensively pursue the adaptation of teaching to the sustainability goals set out in, among other things, the Leipzig Charter and the Paris Climate Agreement. It is committed to a change in teaching and research in order to act in a sustainably effective and interdisciplinary manner, to conserve resources, to develop plans oriented towards the common good and to preserve the natural principles. Accordingly, new teaching formats and interlinked content have been introduced into the curriculum.
