Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The practice-oriented, scientifically based degree course qualifies graduates for the professional field of architecture thanks to a solid foundation. The degree course includes a six-week work placement, which must be completed by the end of the fourth semester. The fifth semester is a practical study semester in Germany or abroad. Excursions and a wide range of compulsory elective courses, including interdisciplinary and international courses, are part of the study programme. This degree course is accredited.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The profile of the "near and far" degree course, with its spatial, temporal and social dimensions, covers topics and construction tasks with a local or global context and the interaction between urban redensification and the management of rural areas. In terms of the temporal dimension, it addresses the redevelopment of existing buildings and the obligation towards historical buildings. The Master's degree in Architecture specialises in the contextual parameters in urban and rural areas. The degree course is divided into in-depth project work, theory and general scientific skills.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Normally, one to two semesters abroad can easily be integrated into the degree course within the Erasmus programme. The subjects taken abroad can be recognised at your home university, so your duration of studies is not extended. The regular practical semester is ideal for a work placement abroad. This can also be completed in a company (or, for example, at a researching university/institute) abroad. Theses can also be prepared at one of our partner universities and/or in cooperation with a company abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

In the supervised modelling workshop, students can have cutting work carried out on the CNC milling machine or circular saw under the professional supervision of a carpenter during opening hours. Models can be made after an introduction to the laser cutting equipment with the support of student assistants. There are currently two Ultimaker 3s and one Ultimaker S5 available for processing. Printing is carried out with white PLA filament. The computer centre makes all CAD programs used in teaching available to the students.

Special features regarding research and development

Design build projects; EU-funded international cooperation to build capacity in the field of problem-oriented learning; Research on community planning in developing regions

Other special features

The topic of sustainability is very present in the Architecture degree courses. In project work in particular, attention is paid to ecological architecture and sustainable action in harmony with nature. Examples of sustainability include design-built studios such as "planting future". The training centre with a forest farm and guest houses in the hills of Buhweju in western Uganda, called "planting future", was planned by Technical University of Applied Sciences (THA) students as part of several design-build studios and was largely realised for the aid organisation Kids of Africa with support from local craftspeople.
