Special features regarding teaching

The KIT faculty of architecture takes a research-oriented approach to teaching. Close links with other universities in Karlsruhe (e.g. HfG, art academy) further expand the range of subjects. Innovative teaching formats such as simulations in the M 1:1 and Design to Build also shape the training in Karlsruhe. In addition to professional knowledge and skills, students are taught critical reflection and are instilled with a sense of responsibility for the built and natural environment.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department includes professorships with an international orientation (e.g. international urban planning) as well as international visiting professors, international course content, primarily in the form of design topics and seminars with a global background in teaching. The Franco-German double-Master’s programme in ‘Planning and building in an International context’ offers students an opportunity to complete their studies at ENSAS Strasbourg at the same time, thus opening up a wider-ranging field of international activity.

Special features regarding the equipment

Two computer pools with comprehensive software programs; 1 plot pool, open 7/24

Special features regarding research activities

The faculty positions itself within the international research landscape with topics such as climate-adapted integrated planning and building, sustainable materials and resources, digital methods for the built environment, architectural criticism and curatorial practice. A unique feature is the close link to the south-west German archive for architecture and structural engineering (saai), Germany's largest architecture archive. With its unique collection of valuable original drawings and models, it represents an important institutional element of the teaching and research programme.

Other special features

Workshops for model building: Wood, metal, plastic - analog and digital. Own photo workshop with relevant courses. Own specialist libraries in the building; Material library with special focus (building materials from waste, from cultivation and local resources).
