Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Design and planning are the focus of our architectural studies. Knowledge acquired about typology, construction, historical development and social context is merged with illustration and design skills at an early stage and applied to solve planning problems. Design is developed and taught as a core skill in projects of an increasingly complex nature. Conceptual thinking, creativity, interdisciplinarity, consideration of sustainability and the inclusion of new academic fields are promoted through assigned sub-projects.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Joint degree programme: German-French double degree; Wide range of Erasmus exchange opportunities (21 partnerships in 11 countries); TU Dresden worldwide programme with partner universities in Africa, America, Asia, Oceania (39 partner universities in 26 countries); Opportunity for required work placement as a funded work placement in the EU; Member of the EUTOPIA Alliance; Networking of the teaching staff in the European Higher Education Area; Joint international seminars (Building Physics, Cultural Heritage) and project-related joint international courses (Urban Design).

PC clusters with 20 CAD workstations, each with 1 or 2 monitors; Digital whiteboards in teaching and study rooms; Faculty laser cutting and plotting service; Modelling workshop with classic tools for woodworking and plaster and plastic processing; Saxon State and University Library (SLUB) makerspace as an open creative space with 3D printers, various cutters, 3D object scanners and much more.; Colour learning space; Collections: Colour theory, map collection, architectural history collection; Access to extensive specialist databases (centrally via SLUB)

Our key areas of research are: renovation and redevelopment of existing properties, revitalisation of historical buildings; building climate-optimised construction and refurbishment; sustainability of buildings in the life cycle, including dismantling; Sustainable urban development, user participation in urban planning; Knowledge architecture; Architecture in demographic change and demographically sustainable usability; The department is also involved in interdisciplinary research projects and facilities within and beyond TU Dresden.

Counselling and introductory event for the transition into the more elective stage II studies phase; Courses for the acquisition of key skills (compulsory part of the curriculum); Trial and preliminary examinations as well as tutorials for exam preparation; Internship exchange for voluntary and compulsory internships; Various sustainability initiatives: Study groups, initiatives to get involved (Mitmachen!) (tuuwi climate justice group, tree sponsorships, repair café, Rad i.O. bicycle workshop, garden, Green Campus, Tu-Was-Pfad exercise area, etc.).
