Special features regarding teaching

Among other things, the department’s special features in teaching lie in the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary nature of the research on which the instruction is based. Intradepartmental cooperation arrangements of the institutes: The Institute for German Language and Literature, together with the Institute for Intercultural Communication, is responsible for instruction in German as a second language/German as a foreign language. Interdisciplinary cooperation e.g. with the Institute of Literary Writing and Literary Studies (Department 2). Close coordination with the Centre for Teacher Training (CeLeB).

Special features regarding the international orientation

The following projects should be highlighted by way of example: Translang – Translanguaging in international teacher training: DAAD-funded project for the internationalisation of teacher education; Negotiating across cultures (seminar-based cooperation with Ireland); stay abroad in the courses of many degree programmes; various joint-degree or double-degree programme of Department 3; Numerous research partnerships and international projects of the institutes

Special features regarding the equipment

Special features regarding research activities

Research topics of Department 3 include subject didactics and topics from the following five profile elements: Linguistic structures and linguistic action, literature and culture, linguistic and literary learning, linguistic and cultural heterogeneity, information and communication processes. A considerable part of the research is carried out inter- and transdisciplinary, in cooperation within the University of Hildesheim as well as with partner institutions in Germany and abroad.

Support for founders

At the University of Hildesheim, there is the overarching KET – Competence Workshop for Entrepreneurship and Transfer. It has set itself the task of sensitising members in all departments at the University of Hildesheim to entrepreneurial thinking and action, qualifying them and professionally supporting concrete economic exploitation of ideas through to market entry. Here, we take a broad approach to the topic, as it also involves, for example, business succession, social start-ups, etc.

Other special features

Department 3, Linguistics and Information Science, is responsible for teaching qualifications in German and English (elementary school, Hauptschule and Realschule) and the applied-linguistic or information-science-based topics of intercultural communication, translation and specialized communication science and information science/language technology. Half of the students in Faculty 3 are studying to become teachers.
