Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

The department offers a wide range of course types, ranging from classic lectures to debate seminars and business games. In selected courses, teachers make use of didactic innovations such as electronic target group feedback systems ("Clickers"). Courses in the faculty are regularly evaluated externally and internally; The evaluation results are regularly used to improve the teaching offered. Courses in the subject are well received and are regularly nominated for the teaching award.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Part of the degree course can be studied with an international focus. Some courses are also taught in English (e.g. Advanced Marketing, Project Scheduling, Product Development and Technologies for Navigation and Driver Assistance Systems).

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty has a good range of electronic journal resources (especially Springer Online, EBSCO Host, EconLit). There are several modern computer pools and servers for different applications. A good range of software licences (e.g. for statistics software and reference management programmes) is available from the university's computer centre. There are also mobile computer clusters for on-campus simulation games, etc. as well as technically sophisticated equipment such as eye-tracking systems. The department can also use the university's media service.

Special features regarding research activities

Several interdisciplinary BMBF research projects are currently being worked on at the Institute for Business Administration and Information Systems (as of January 2022). The specialisation is in the field of digitalisation. Of particular note is the successful acquisition of EXIST start-up funding for lecturers and students in the amount of approx. € 2 million. The willingness of Hildesheim lecturers to involve students closely in their research and to allow them to benefit from it (e.g. study projects with practical partners or in BMBF projects) is particularly great and is gladly accepted.

Support for founders

The University of Hildesheim is strategically expanding its start-up support and has been EXIST-funded since 12/2019. The AG Entrepreneurship has been in existence since 2015 and organises the annual Entrepreneurship Week. In addition, the AG regularly organises events in cooperation with partners from the region (e.g. regional business development, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK)) in which start-ups are to be inspired in innovative formats (e.g. Lean Coffee). The EXIST funding will create a start-up advice centre from 2020, which will also have rooms for start-ups.

Other special features

One noteworthy feature is how easily reached the professors are at the University of Hildesheim. Due to the small number of students, the supervision rate is excellent and the direct accessibility of the lecturers is excellent. The students therefore have a much closer connection to the lecturers than to large universities.
