Special features regarding teaching

Business Informatics at the HSBA is characterised by sound technical training combined with the important content of a Business Administration. The practical orientation is essential, learning content is accompanied and deepened by students during the practical phase in the company, so that graduates are familiar with the use of the learned content in companies and can work productively directly after completing their studies. All teachers are active in the practical subject areas in practice. Teaching takes place in small groups.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Business Informatics is taught 25% in English and 75% in German. Business English is an integral part of the course. Additional foreign languages can be selected in the comprehensive elective area. A semester abroad or a summer school at an international (partner) university are further options. The practical phases can also take place abroad with internationally oriented companies. A study trip abroad is part of the curriculum. International teachers regularly teach during their studies.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Leibniz Information Centre for Economics is the HSBA central university library. The modern seminar rooms are equipped with SMART Boards or projectors and, in some cases, with streaming modules for hybrid teaching. All university members use “HSBA Teams” as a learning and communication platform, as well as the Microsoft Office 365 package. Students and teaching staff can always keep track of their schedules and data via an internet portal (also available as a web app).

Special features regarding research activities

The HSBA combines application-oriented teaching with excellent research. Our research activities create added value for the economy and promote young academics with our cooperative doctoral programme in Hamburg. Research, continuing academic education and teaching are linked in the individual departments of the HSBA (these are: Technology & Markets, Finance & Accounting, Marketing Transformation, Strategy & Leadership). The research focus areas are "Digitalisation", "Business Ethics" and "SMEs and Family Businesses".

Other special features

Diversity is of central importance to HSBA and is seen as a cross-cutting task across all areas of the university. The Diversity Concept and the Diversity Report, which is published annually, show all the goals and developments of the diversity work at HSBA. The Diversity Officer is committed to the equality of students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff. HSBA has a Sustainability Officer, who, in close cooperation with university management, looks at ideas on the issues, makes their own suggestions and is a central point of contact for everyone.
