Special features regarding teaching

The degree course in Process and Environmental Engineering teaches apparatus and process knowledge from the fields of Process and Environmental Engineering. The two areas are closely linked today. The degree course sets special requirements for networked knowledge from the fields of Natural Science and Technology. In addition to the specialist knowledge, methods for problem-solving in application-orientated projects are trained and taught. The focus of teaching is always Environmental Engineering as the field of application for Process Engineering.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department of Process and Environmental Engineering participates in internationally-oriented research projects. The department's project work and final theses have been carried out under the scope of these research projects in, among others, African countries. In addition, students are actively supported in carrying out semesters and work placements abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

The degree course has access to modern, state-of-the-art laboratories. They offer the best possible conditions for solid scientific training and research in almost all relevant process engineering disciplines. In addition to investments from the university, intensive collaboration with industry partners ensures that the technical laboratory equipment meets a high standard. The university library has won multiple awards. It offers access to specialist books and, via the specialist database debis, access to relevant publications/journals.

Special features regarding research and development

The professors of the faculty are involved in national and international research projects, including of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The scientific findings from these projects form the basis for several successfully completed doctorates.

Support for founders

Initial advice for students interested in setting up their own business; Advice and support in applying for the EXIST start-up grant; Ideas & Cheers start-up event, which takes place 4 times a year at the HTWG; Co-organisation of the "Gründertag" start-up day in Constance once a year; The "IdeaCup" ideas competition, with the winning teams having the chance to win a trip to Silicon Valley; Workshops for generating ideas and on topics related to starting a business; https://kilometer1.de/de/ (Startup initiative of HTWG and the University of Konstanz); Start-up boot camp together with the Open Innovation Lab

Other special features

The degree course in Process and Environmental Engineering is designed for 35 students per semester. The resulting excellent teacher-student ratio makes it possible for professors with many years of industrial experience to give students intensive and individual supervision. The convenient location on Lake Constance with the immediate proximity to Switzerland and Austria creates many possibilities for contact with international companies.
