Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The STEM programme combines various fields of study such as electrical engineering, information engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, industrial engineering, applied mathematics and biotechnology instrumentation. The students learn to conduct research in a fundamentally oriented and application-oriented manner on the methods, processes and systems. The personal atmosphere in the Engineering and Mathematics (IuM) Department, the well-equipped laboratories and the individual supervision by the professors guarantee optimal study conditions. Independent course to introduce the professional field.

Special features regarding the international orientation

HSBI's International Office advises students on study visits abroad and funding opportunities, and refers them to foreign partner universities. The EU programme LEONARDO DA VINCI is also available to promote work placements by graduates in EU countries. Scholarships for stays abroad by students (e.g. ERASMUS), graduates, teachers and non-scientists. employees are available from various programmes, including the education programmes of the European Union.

Special features regarding the equipment

State-of-the-art laboratory equipment and devices. In the degree course 800 sqm biotechnology laboratory of security level 1. Equipment: ten 2 litre bioreactors, 20 litre disposable wave bioreactor, 200 L STR disposable bioreactor, 40 L stainless steel bioreactor, 7 Äkta Purifier, Äkta Avant, Äkta Pilot, Sartoflow Advanced, CE-MS, SPR, 2 Cubian XC, 3 Cedex, Casy, 4 autoclaves, ELISA Reader, Cellavista, 7 safety workbenches, 6 incubators, MFSC,.. The laboratory equipment is specially tailored to the requirements of small groups. Characteristic are also engineering-specific software tools for all students.

The Department of Engineering and Mathematics at HSBI is characterised by extensive activities in the field of applied research in close cooperation with local industry, but also in the field of basic research in cooperation with other universities and research institutions.

Other special features

Where equal opportunities for men and women are concerned, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences takes a lead position at the state and federal levels. HSBI is supportive in reconciling family and studies or career, as well as advice on chronic illness, disability or psychosocial problems.
