Experts from industry are involved in teaching; in selected courses, students are given the opportunity to conceive, organise and evaluate important events and thus translate their knowledge in practical contexts (DHM, ERBE city run Tübingen, ARD Sport Forum etc.); research-based teaching for Master's and teacher training candidates; project-based teaching; inter-disciplinary links between content in selected project seminars

In addition to the standard equipment; (sports halls, gymnastics halls, swimming pool, games hall, athletics stadium, football training pitches): modern gymnasium available with integrated research equipment; modern weight and fitness room with cardiac diagnostic test; climbing area (outdoor and indoor); beach volleyball and handball facilities; tennis courts; running track; water sport facilities (boathouse with kayaks, canoes and rowing boats, direct access to Neckar); Eye-tracking lab. All seminar rooms with modern Smartboard technology. Institute library: current reference collection and online access to subject databases.

Sport facilities

Since 2011: "Quota for top athletes" for courses of study with restricted admissions (for top athletes who belong to the Olympic, perspective, junior or supplementary squad of a DOSB national professional association). Since 2005: Cooperation agreement between the University of Tübingen, OSP Stuttgart and Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim. Services provided by the University of Tübingen: including flexible attendance times/examination dates, semesters off, use of sports facilities, study and sports planning, accommodation. Implementation at the University of Tübingen: Position of the contact person for top-level sports promotion at the IfS.

Special features regarding research activities

High-performance sport research in the Social and Behavioural Sciences (DFB, Bisp, UEFA etc.); sport and health-related educational research; mixture of basic and application-related research in the fields of Biomechanics and Sports Medicine; links to "Education" excellence area of the Universität Tübingen (Science campus, excellence initiative, quality initiative in teacher training); Interfaculty Research Institute for Sport and Physical Activity together with the Faculty of Medicine

Other special features

With five professorships, one co-opted professorship and one junior professorship (compared to other institutes), the Institute of Sport Sciences at the University of Tübingen is relatively broadly positioned and thus also offers students a wide range of expertise; teaching also benefits from the correspondingly broadly positioned - mostly application-oriented - research, as the respective research findings are directly incorporated here.
